Chapter 6

That night Vivienne didn’t tell Jacob how much she loved him, but he surely knew it from her actions. Submitting to him was the most effective way to demonstrate that she belonged to him, and to get lost in the power of his dominance.

Vivienne knew that Jacob understood the physical connection and the intensity of sex play, although he hadn’t yet embraced the lightness in spirit of falling in love. She was closest to him in those heated moments, certain that he knew of her deep love for him without the need to speak of it. Her sexy addiction to Jacob, and the limitless joy of their union, grew with each profoundly rewarding encounter.

Despite Jacob’s warnings about the pitfalls of a relationship with him, Vivienne was utterly spoiled by his treatment of her. It wasn’t the playroom only, but the little things, like falling asleep in his arms. Later that night in bed, listening to Jacob’s steady breathing, Vivienne closed her eyes, happiness filling her soul.

The next morning, they luxuriated in bed, touching and kissing. It was sweet and unexpected, the sentiment warming Vivienne even more to the man she adored. Once they got up, showered, and dressed, Jacob suggested a walk in the park.

It couldn’t have been a more idyllic day, with bright rays of sun warming them, and lush green all around. Like romantic lovers, they held hands, needing no more than each other. If Jacob was uncomfortable with such affection, he didn’t show it.

They followed the walkway underneath a canopy of elm trees, along a path lined with benches. The area was alive with artists capturing the scene on canvas, plus many vendors and street performers. Vivienne particularly liked the guys creating huge bubbles in the air for tips. She dropped some money for one of them into a hat at his feet.

Part of Vivienne’s job of developing fragrances was picking up on new scents for ideas. She noticed the smell of dry leaves, and a subtle firewood odor, which was pleasing to the senses. Her creative juices started flowing, and she imagined how she could blend ingredients to create a natural, alluring scent. All perfumes shouldn’t smell like flowers; there were woodsy or musky scents, too.

Jacob was quiet, seemingly thoughtful. Vivienne looked up at him. “What are you thinking about?”

“It’s not really thinking.” Jacob’s lips thinned into a tight smile, not a sign of happiness. “I haven’t mentioned this to you before, but I experience flashbacks.”

“Of what happened to you as a child?”

Jacob nodded. “I don’t want to burden you with it, but since we talked so much about my mother…they seem to come on more frequently.”

“You flash to what happened then?”

“Yes, and it’s as if it is happening now.” Jacob rolled his shoulder, as if relieving stress. “When we passed the artists, it made me sad. My mother painted watercolors, so I suppose seeing the landscapes on easels stirred those memories.”

“Have you had flashbacks for a while?”

“Yes, along with the nightmares. Memories, or things that remind me of her, aren’t the problem.
